Congratulations!!!! You really earned this and truly deserve it. Plus there must be a reward such as this for sitting through the entire endless CCSD school board meetings.
Not that I'm one to run from a fight but dang it the West was always my home, my stomping grounds, where I have the most family and where shared experience (and shared poverty and some rudimentary ranching skills to share)make new friendships easier than at U of SC. So when I could retire from Darla Moore, I went back home—to the middle of nowhere, to Union County, NM. Not Santa Fe or Taos or anyplace anyone has hear of, but at the foot of a little volcano at 6,600 feet ASL, where the shortgrass prairie considers shifting into cedar and Piñon.
SC journalism, while I was there, just kept getting worse. The State newspaper lost me as a subscriber. But there was still Bitter Southerner!
Your writing made my 9 years in 'Cola better, more understandable. Helped peel the complex, perplexing and often lovely onion that is Souf Cak. ACLU, and SC generally, are damn lucky to have you.
That first post about the Strom (not the one with the pool, the taller, odder one) was the hook for me. Post when you have time, and thanks for sticking around in SC, man, and for doing this work and not running out west to play geezer cowboy.
This is the ACLU 's good fortune and I hope yours too. I've enjoyed reading your published insights ever since you interviewed me when I ran for James Island Town Council. Your questions were insightful, beyond the importance of the election in question. I hope we will continue to hear from you, but working with the ACLU is about as crucial a job as I can think of right now. Keep telling the truth for all to read.
Will miss your posts. Happy for you. ACLU is getting a great contributor. But will follow you at ACLU. Loved getting your posts b/c I learned so much abt what was going on in SC. I shared your piece w a group of friends about your data at the supermarket b/c I thought it made it very clear why Americans need more data privacy protections. Some were shocked. People don’t understand what’s going on w their data. I felt like I had a friend in SC telling me what was ACTUALLY going on.
The new job sounds like the perfect fit for you! I always look forward to reading your essays when they come, and will continue to enjoy the musings as they come. Wishing you all the best!
Paul this is amazing news! How lucky are you that the perfect intersection of your special interests exists in job form! I'm looking forward to seeing your passion shine through in such a worthy cause. You deserve a great opportunity like this and ACLU-SC is certainly deserving of your expertise. Wishing you all the best and cheering you on from the sidelines. Thanks for sharing your work and fighting the good fight.
This is so dope!!!!!!! Congrats!!!! You are the ACLU and what a perfect job for you! I will miss Brutal South but am now glad that you won’t be fighting alone and God bless!!!!!

Haha ironically it might mean going to a few more school board meetings
Great organization—they are lucky to get you!
Congrats, Paul! The ACLU couldn't have a better spokesperson.
Thank you, Hanna!

Congratulations and good luck!
Congratulations! Sounds right up you alley! I'm now donating monthly too to the ACLU.
Thank you!
Congratulations! It’s no small task to find such work these days. I will miss Brutal South, but thankful an ACLU group will benefit from your talents.
"Communications director for the American Civil Liberties Union of South Carolina," WOW!
I am confident you will excel and bring a fresh and engaging new perspective to the organization's communication needs.
Wow!! Congratulations, Paul. ACLU-SC is so lucky to have you as well. I wish atheists had a substitute for “Godspeed”. I’d be all over it. 😂
Thank you! I'll settle for a nonreligious "Go get 'em, tiger"
